FeMail Art
Nov. 6th, 2001 | 07:47 am
I am writing a dissertation on the effects of the Internet on the correspondence art network. It is important that the study be done by a woman because the literature on correspondence art has been largely written by men. Important women, such as Anna Banana and Judith Hoffberg have been all but ignored. I conducted pilot interviews with both Banana and Hoffberg and it has been my goal throughout my research to seek out and interview all the women correspondence artists who are in my subject range, namely correspondence artists who also have a web presence. It is important that the next book (my dissertation) on mail art will not be so exclusively about male art.

I just learned that an interview about mail and mail art in the days of terrorists' attacks I recorded last week for NPR will be on Morning Edition tomorrow. If you get National Public Radio please listen in.
