| Dr. Sketchy, the Mystic, and piano jazz |
[Apr. 20th, 2008|04:56 pm] |
What fun. At Dr. Sketchy one artist said I reminded her of Rodin's fast gestures. WOW! I disagree totally but WOW! then home to wash the ink and graphite off and then to Eddie v's but there was a 20 minute wait so we went to see George at the piano and Suzie Stern sing at the Driscoll piano bar, then back to Eddie V's for oysters and bisque and lovely red wine both being in a totally red wine mood and another set of piano jazz singing. My evening of artmaking and piano jazzing with the Knutster under the full moon. Lovely

| Dr. Sketchy Show video |
[Jan. 3rd, 2008|11:33 am] |
This video shows the fall show at Austin Figurative Gallery. I had at least 15 drawings in the show and they pass before your eyes during the video montage. Most of the really bright ones are mine because of my passion for the hot pink color called opera. |

| Jazzed |
[Oct. 25th, 2007|08:54 am] |

I am jazzed that Grace and Henry encourage more loose abstract figures
At first Henry wanted subtle figure work to work into his jacket designs but now he and Grace are really excited by my natural direction which is loose and almost abstract figures. The most recent Dr. Sketchy with Kitty Korvette was down and dirty with fingerpainting in acrylic combined with India ink with quill pen and little lines with brush. I missed Monday's class but will go next Mon. Soon I will have blown through my first roll of the canvas. Wheeeeee! |

At the end of the Dr. Sketchy evening I was painting on shower curtain material. The paint was silky and the plastic was slick. |

| Learning about oils |
[Sep. 1st, 2007|10:48 pm] |

I experimented with my poor non-drying August Dr. Sketchy paintings on vinyl. I tried the Japan Drier which seemed to make the paint even gooier. I talked to an oil painter at Jerry's and then bought Gamblin quick dry white and made a few test vinyls. I squirted these green and black and white nudes with the Sennelier oil pastel drying spray and they melted. I decided that the oil-based paint markers were not going to work so I did a big test sheet with fabric markers and I bought some white acrylic fabric paint. I'm going to wash the test panel and see what happens. |

Fine Dr. Sketchy model Sunny Lunch Lady Inspired my best work

Here are the first Naugahyde paintings rolling off the Naug. Sharpie oil paint markers. The white seems to stay sticky. I bought a bottle of Japan Drier to see if I can dry the whites. Art supplies surprises. |

New Berlin Sandbox, a second life place to make virtualized art
I delivered 10 Dr. Sketchy drawings to my Second Life Gallery, the Ginsberg Art Center with curator Tommy Parrott. I'm working on the next 10 now. Making the SL drawing involves resizing a prim, adding a texture to both sides. One side has the drawing and the back side has a signature and brief artist statement. |

| SL art start |
[Jul. 27th, 2007|09:25 am] |
I created my first prim and made the default box into a flat panel and placed my jpg texture painting of a Dr. Sketchy model on one of the flat surfaces. Tommy Parrott provided good directions, plus I printed some how to build tutorials to follow. I submitted my prototype painting to Tommy, my vitural curator who said I did it correctly. In fact, he said, "perfect;_)" Pretty good compared to statements by other curators I have known. I am concerned a bit about the drawings' relative size to walls, to avatars, etc. Most of the Ginsberg Art Center paintings are pretty much 3/4 average avatar size. I'm thinking of making some of my drawings smaller and arranging a few in groups on the wall. Still a lot of avatar work to do. I think my SL show will look just fine on my RL CV. Today the sun came back out, so the next step is to shoot photos of more Dr. Sketchy drawings. |

| reigning champion |
[Jun. 17th, 2007|09:08 pm] |

Two times in a row Model's choice prize - 2 pasties and some Lammes' bon bons
When I won the model's choice this time Arye called me the reigning champion. I also won the prize for drawing the model looking most like a flamingo.

Dr. Sketchy is such fun. The DJ was incredible and the model was amazing. Fortunately I tossed a tube of opera pink in my picnic basket of art supplies because the first outfit was made of opera pink feathers.
See what it's like in the NYC group - it's just as much fun in Austin. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dhVZbKthwU |
