| Make your art work for you |
[Mar. 14th, 2008|10:47 am] |
One of the SXSW Core Conversations was Make Your Art Work for You. About 40 people were there. The artists came out of the tech woodwork to attend this session. The conversation pooled the group's experience with creating art and distributing it. Two artists passed around books they created using Lulu and told their experiences. I was inspired to print a book. K scanned the images, put them into inDesign last night and we have a book almost ready to ship to Lulu to sell. More information soon. |

| Zilker Iris |
[Feb. 28th, 2008|11:32 am] |
After painting the poppies in the upper levels of the gardens I wandered down to the iris bed. Only one plant was in bloom. Henry wants me to paint florals on fabrics. What a flapping mess that would be in this wind!
This blue is from Karin's wonderful Christmas surprise. It's mixed with rather a lot of gum arabic to make a contrast to the painted surface of the flowers. |

| So you want to be a watercolorist? |
[Feb. 26th, 2008|09:48 am] |
A friend wants to give his wife a perfect beginners watercolor set and asked for recommendations:
I feel like a pusher giving you your first hit of weed. I'd get a travel set of high-quality watercolors either tube or pans (solid) and some good paper and tear or cut it into smaller sheets instead of a pad. The traditional way to cut watercolor paper is to put a ruler on it and tear the paper against the ruler for a deckle edge - I told you there were a lot of traditions about watercolors - they can get restrictive and silly. The individual pieces of paper let you start another painting while the first one dries. A pad insists that you wait the drying time before you turn the page. Pads are bossy and slow you down. The downside of individual sheets is that they blow away. ( Like water like color ) |

Austin Figurative Gallery drawing session was a blast. New watercolor canvas worked well with acrylics. Next step to see if they can be dry cleaned for wearable art!
Henry called and told me I was his Jean Cocteau. |

[Jul. 1st, 2007|12:58 am] |
Of Physiology from top to toe I sing Line from Whitman's Leaves of Grass is collaged on top of this head. The painting started out as a blue sky and the side of a wall with a light fixture. I turned it 90 degrees and made the head with oil pastel and white gouache. |

| sunset and leaves of grass |
[May. 25th, 2007|09:57 am] |

Take watercolors out to the bench at sunset let them flow on grass
I am going to be doing leaves of grasses for some time...I bought a Leaves of Grass hardcover book with better paper and larger type to cut up. The power of the Whitman text is profoundly transformative to a composition. I like to watch what happens. I am posting the leaves as illustrations on http://www.artwanted.com/honoria with the option to buy prints, but not the originals. I'm reorganizing the portfolio from content focus, such as nudes, to season focused with 2 or 3 portfolios a year. My new portfolio for recent work is Summer 2007 with everything recent in it. Next I'll write to my friends to check out the new work by directing them to that portfolio. If someone wants to buy or show the work then they can contact me directly.
Dr. Sketchy is going to have an art show in NYC in the fall. I have to choose what paintings to submit. For sure, one of the chosen will be my David Lynchiest. |
