Yesterday I joined a writers' group that will meet every two weeks at a coffee house. We did an exercise in which everyone wrote for five minutes from the perspective of a gondola. I'm hoping that the group will give me advice to make the dissertation more of a popular book while still maintaining its scholarly rigor. One group member who works in the movie industry is a wonderful narrative strategist and I'm looking forward to working with her. Her gondola piece was quite dark and murky like the water it was drifting upon.
