feet frieze

As the Education Director of the Austin Museum of Digital Art ( I am sometimes asked to come up with innovative installation ideas for events. I am rather proud of my most recent Frieze of Feet for a running event this weekend.

What: Weird Zone at the Keep Austin Weird 5K ( <> )
When: August 28th, 2004; 12:30 pm - 10 pm Set up 10:00 a.m.
Where: Auditorium Shores, Austin, Texas

(in partnership with YouthInterActive!)
feet-in-motion - a Frieze for fitness!
(the Athens Parthenon has a frieze, so can Austin)

Project: To create a growing frieze (linear installation) of kid-produced images of feet in motion. The frieze will be installed around the four upper edges of at 10 x 10 foot tent, just like the Parthenon Frieze.

1. kids take pictures of each other's feet in running shoes, sandals, barefoot.
2. transfer images to computer
3. apply a graphical blur or other simple graphic effect to indicate speed.
4. Print
5. Attach most recent image to a growing collection of feet moving in the same direction - toward health and fitness!

It's wierd, it's about fitness, it's international, it's Olympian, it's art historical.
