Dress me for Europe

Fashion Drawing Student work Spring 2011 Art Institute of Austin

Fashion Drawing Student work Spring 2011 Art Institute of Austin

As a warm up exercise in Fashion Drawing I asked students to design a look for a mature artist visiting Europe, namely me.  Here are the looks that some of them created for me to wear.  They said it was a different idea to design for a different type of person than themselves and they certainly rose to the challenge.  Wouldn't I look cute in these outfits?

Sunflower Day in Observational Drawing

Sunflower Day in Observational Drawing Spring 2011 Art Institute of Austin

The day after the zen chapter is sunflower day.  I showed the class some Georgia O'Keefe paintings to get started and encouraged some close observation of the work through the 5 perceptual skills (Betty Edwards).

Next I sent them outside to draw the sky for 15 minutes.  We sprayed workable fixative on all the sky drawings and came back into the air conditioning where there were cut sunflowers.  The task was to draw the sunflower on top of the sky. Each student had a sunflower to draw in an untimed drawing.
