Hi - I know that Sandy Stone might have talked to you about helping me out with a project, but even if you don't have the time or desire to do that I wanted to say hi & tell you that your paintings are beautiful. :)

I'll be happy to talk to you about your project. What is it?

I am creating a series of performance pieces inspired by Anne Sexton's Transformations poems, looking at the roles that women play or are told to play through fairy tales, etc. and how different our lives are from the fairy tale endings. I have one piece, based on The Twelve Dancing Princesses, in which I would like to involve Second Life as part of the performance. I'm looking for someone who can give me some help with what is possible - I've never used Second Life though I intend to soon - and potentially also be a part of the live performance through interaction in Second Life with our actress. The way I'm thinking of it right now, our actress would be onstage, online, and a projector would be showing the screen of her computer large on the back wall. The idea is that as adults we seek ways to live out the crazy childhood energy that made us do crazy things as teenagers, have adventures, break the rules, be artists, etc. I would really like the virtual performer to be showing a part of Second Life that might represent that - whether it's being the person (or animal) that you always wished you were, or creating the impossible art that you couldn't do in real life, or just flying. For the virtual performer this is wide open. We have quite a few technical issues to work out with this, not the least of which is not knowing if we will have internet access at the theatre.

We have applied for a slot in the Frontera Fest in January and we will find out this week if we're in. If not, we have a commitment to several artists already involved in the project to find a way to get it performed, so it will happen no matter what.

I'm a theatre designer and this will be the first time really creating a full length performance, so it will be interesting and I'm sure everyone will have to have patience. I'm approaching all the poems/pieces from the pov of a designer, creating many of the visuals before creating the performance. I also have a lot of other really wonderful women involved as musicians, composers, dancers, directors, costume designers and filmmakers. So many of these pieces will be incorporating projections, and I think it could be really interesting to use a "virtual performance" as part of a real life performance.

Let me know if you're interested.
