Ten Gestures on Top of Each Other

Last week I was inspired by a gesture drawing image I found in my Google Alerts for "gesture drawing".  The composition  had several gestures drawn large on top of each other in paint.  I showed the example to the class and encouraged my students to draw lots of large gestures on the page overlapping and changing sizes.  The model wore a length of fabric wrapped like a toga and wielded a sword so the result looked like a sword fighting scene.

After ten gesture drawings of the model, students were given extra time and encouragement to work on the negative space as well as to develop some of the figures to create a composition out of the chaotic mass of figures.

I think I'll do this in the fashion drawing class too.
