Sunflower Day in Observational Drawing

Sunflower Day in Observational Drawing Spring 2011 Art Institute of Austin

The day after the zen chapter is sunflower day.  I showed the class some Georgia O'Keefe paintings to get started and encouraged some close observation of the work through the 5 perceptual skills (Betty Edwards).

Next I sent them outside to draw the sky for 15 minutes.  We sprayed workable fixative on all the sky drawings and came back into the air conditioning where there were cut sunflowers.  The task was to draw the sunflower on top of the sky. Each student had a sunflower to draw in an untimed drawing.
