mail art as precursor to internet references

There is the thread that both CrackerJack Kid and Judith Conaway mentioned that some mail artist see themselves and the mail art network as a forerunner to the Internet. There was a mention of that same topic in an article shortly after Ray Johnson's death. Maybe I should collect those three sources into a small section of the outline. Can I ask CJK and Judith to talk a little bit more about the subject of mail art as a precursor to the Internet? I could ask John Held to comment and I should look through the artistamp archive and see what Fricker said in his Aggressive School of Mail Art ways.
