Student Reflection on Observational Drawing class

End of Semester Reflection by J.M. R.

When I first started observational drawing I was intimidated at the level of skill that Doc displayed in her quick demonstrations. Although intimidated, she taught me that all things when broken down were just simple forms and by gaining knowledge of the principals of design and paying attention to the gestalt I ventured out of my comfort zone. I used to think I could only block in in lines but when trying new mediums my pieces took on more life. In the beginning my proportions were not good and I was unskilled in any medium really. With the inspiration from my classmates and practice, my pieces became more realistic. Lemon day taught me one of the most important skills I've learned this quarter. Light logic. It taught me how to give dimension and light to objects making them more realistic.
